As part of our Marine Conservation Program we spend a day on the beautiful Fitzroy Island where we have the privilege of visiting the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.

The Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre (CTRC) is a non-profit, voluntary organisation dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick and injured turtles.

The sick or injured turtles are brought in from the Great Barrier Reef, Cape York Peninsular and sometimes as far south as Townsville. If left unaided often these animals will die.

While at the centre we will get shown around the facility by one of the volunteers as they explain what they do to help the turtles and introduce us to a few of the patients. If we are lucky we may even get to help feed the sick turtles!

The volunteers do such an amazing job that the success rate in rehabilitating sick and injured animals and returning them to the ocean is 85%!
